June 1st, 1858

Tuesday 1st June 1858

We received a letter from Mother. I went to Newport.

In the evening, Fanny and I went to Chapel, Mr. Pollard received the tickets for those who wished to take them, but there were a great many absentees.

May 24th, 1858

Monday 24th May 1858

Miss Wall and I went to Carisbrooke Castle about 3 o’clock it poured with rain so we got very wet indeed. In the evening we went to the circus, there was an excursion to Alum Bay, a teaparty at Littletown, Merston, St Helens etc.

May 23rd, 1858

Sunday 23rd May 1858

In the afternoon Miss Wall and I walked into Newport heard Mr Procter of  Nodehill Chapel preach a very excellent sermon in the circus. After tea we walked to Carisbrooke Mr. Mathews showed us all over the new cemetery, after resting for a short while we returned home. Cousin William and Mr Krother drank tea with Grandma, then they walked into Newport Church.

May 12th, 1858

Wednesday 12th May 1858

Miss Fanny Wall and I, in our little four wheel started for Ventnor. We left home by half past 7 o’clock, we put our donkey up at the Kent Tavern. We then walked into Bonchurch, called at “Sunnyside” and saw Miss J Wall. We then walked into Shanklin, we went through the chine, and after which we dined, and then walked back into Bonchurch, drank tea at “Sunny Side”, then returned to Ventnor had “Daisy” harnessed, we came back through Godshill and Newport, home to dear Old Wootton Villa having spent a very happy day indeed.

May 7th, 1858

I painted the window frames. In the evening Fanny came to see us.

May 2nd, 1858

Sunday 2nd May 1858

Julia went to Wootton Church. In the afternoon Miss Fanny Wall and I went to Church, Mr. Lewdon preached the sermon for the missionary collection.

In the evening Mr.F.C.L. and Mr. J.D. called in for a few seconds. About 9 o’clock Mr.G.C. called in to see Grandma, he also invited me to go to their service next Tuesday evening.

April 29th, 1858

Thursday 29th April 1858

Miss Fanny Wall and Mr George Moody Junior went to Fareham Asylum, they returned about 5 o’clock, they drank tea with us. Mr Baily and Mr (no name) preached at Littletown Chapel. In the evening Mr G.C. and Julia went to the amateur dramatic entertainment, they were highly amused with the performance.

April 26th, 1858

Monday 26th April 1858

I did a little gardening Miss F. Wall drank tea with us. In the evening Mr. Cooper called to see Grandma about the seats at the church.

April 11th, 1858

Sunday 11th April 1858

Julia went to Wootton Church. In the afternoon I went Mr Spurgein preached, Mr. G. C drank tea with us. Mrs and Miss Alford and Miss Fanny Wall went to Wootton Weslyan Chapel. In the evening Mr. G. C and I went as far as Wootton Bridge for a walk it was a very pleasant evening.

March 8th, 1858

Julia went to see Fanny. The revivals are still up.
