Thursday 29th January 1857

Mr. Scot called to see Grandma and wished me to join the church. In the afternoon Uncle Thomas came to see us. After tea we went as far as Quarr with him.

Mrs. Tharle confined with a daughter.

Grandma received a letter from Uncle John.

Julia and I went to Wootton Church. Mr H. Williams called to see Grandma. In the evening I and Mr. J. Y. G went for a walk.

Mother brought a very handsome pair of scales of Mr. Brown.

I went to Newport.

The consecration of St Thoma’s’s Church Newport. Mr. G. C and Mr. J. Y. G Julia & I went we arrived home about 5 o’clock.

Mr. James Young Groundsell’s birthday. In the afternoon a few friends drank tea and spent the evening at his house we were amongst the number, we spent a very pleasant evening and arrived home about 1/2 past 10 o’clock.

Julia and I went to church. In the afternoon we went to Chapel. In the evening Mr. G. C and Mr. J. Y. G Julia and I went to Newport Church. We arrived home about 9 o’clock.
