Thursday 22nd April 1858

We gave the parlour a little of our handiwork in dusting and put some new window blinds for the front windows. Julia did a little painting. About 4 o’clock I took a walk as far has Wootton Church to see about a kneeling board being placed in our seat. Mr Cooper was very busy constructing the two seats occupied by Mr. E. Williams and Mrs Read into one square seat for Mr. Hopkins the new owner of Woodside.

Wednesday 21st April 1858

We took up the hall carpet and thoroughly cleaned the room. I was very tired when evening came

In the evening Mr John Tewksbury of Wootton Bridge attempted or threatened to cut Miss Martha Mew’s throat through a fit of jealousy. They are members of Wootton Wesleyan Chapel.

Sunday 18th April 1858

I went to Wootton Church, Mr Lewdon preached a farewell sermon. In the afternoon I again went to Church.  In the evening, Mr.G.C. went to Ryde.

Julia walked into Newport.

Friday 16th April 1858

I went to Newport. In the evening a slight thunder storm.

Thursday 15th April 1858

The first hen that sat laid an egg – the light hen we sat on the duck eggs. In the afternoon Julia and Mrs Moore went to the sale of furniture at Kite Hill, Miss J. Brading came home with Julia. Mr. C. Pike set the potatoes in the garden, Julia went part the way home with Miss Brading.

I went to Newport, in the afternoon I did a little gardening.

Tuesday 13th April 1858

I went to Newport. In the evening I went to the prayer meeting at Littletown. I enjoyed it very much. I arrived home about 9 o’clock.

Monday 12th April 1858

Julia went to Wootton Bridge for some duck eggs. In the evening Mr. G. C,  Mr. G,  Mrs. and Miss Lydia Cooper called in we had a little practice but it did not sound so sweet as it generally does.
