Monday 19th July 1858

Rookley Tea party. I went to Ryde to pay the grocery license but I was too early so cousin William paid it for Grandma. In the afternoon I went to Newport.

Sunday 18th July 1858

Julia went to Wootton Church. In the afternoon Miss Thorne drank tea with us. In the evening Julia and Miss Thorne went to Newport Church. Mr. R.C. called to see us.

Thursday 15th July 1858

In the afternoon Fanny and I drank tea near Blacklands we had a little gypsy party. In the evening it came on to rain so we arrived home about 9 o’clock very tired indeed.

Sunday 11th July 1858

The Bible Christian Anniversary at Brooke was celebrated when three sermons were presented by Mr. J  Tremelling, of Chatham. In the afternoon Julia drank tea with Miss J. Brading and heard two very eloquent sermons preached by Mr. D. Alford. Mr. Gatrell and Miss M. Whittington married.

Mother left us today for Fareham. I went to the end of Ryde pier with her. I put up my donkey at the Star Inn dined at Uncles and drank tea with William. I arrived home about 8 o’clock.

We heard that Mrs I Bennett was confined June 27th with a son. Mother and I went to Newport.
