November 15th, 1857

Sunday 15th november 1857

Julia went to Wootton Church. In the afternoon I went to church.

Mr G. C drank tea with us and we spent a very happy evening. I did at the least.

I whent to Church, in the afternoon Julia went to church. Mr Maddoc preached his farewell sermon.

In the evening we read a little, played and sung a few tunes and after spending a very happy evening by ourselves we retired to rest.

Sacrament Sunday at St Edmunds.

In the afternoon Julia and I went to church. When we returned home we found Mrs Burrows, her son and Miss Harriet Sherwood, they arrived about 3 o’clock, we spent a very pleasant evening. Julia and I went as far as “Kite Hill” home with them, it was a most pleasant walk, on our return home we saw Miss Ann Cooper who came to the top of the hill with us, where meeting her sisters and a few more friends, who had been to Ebenezer Chapel she returned homeward with them, and we pursued our journey alone. We arrived home by 9 o’clock, then read a little, played a few tunes on the concertina and then retired to rest.

October 28th, 1857

Wednesday 28th October 1857

I did a little gardening. In the afternoon Mother went to Newport. I sketched St. Edmunds Church at Wootton. Miss Fanny Wall called to see us.

In the evening Mr G.C. called to see us, he very kindly pointed out the imperfections of my drawing for which was very much obliged to him but I am sorry to say that I think I quite offended him towards the close of the evening.

October 25th, 1857

This morning we went to church, Mr Scot took his text from the 22nd Chapter of Luke and the latte clause of the 19th verse “This do in remembrance of me”.

In the afternoon it rained so we remained at home.

In the evening Julia and I played a few tunes on the flutina and the concertina. About 7 o’clock Mr.G.C. called in to see us, although he was very poorly caused the evening to pass very pleasantly. We retired to rest about 11 o’clock.

Much better.

In the afternoon Julia and I went to church, Mr. Groundsel was clerk. Mr G.C. drank tea with us.

In the evening we went to Chapel.

General Humiliation and fast day for the Indian Mutiny. I went to church in the morning and afternoon.

Julia and I went to church ( I forgot to mention yesterday that Grandma made me a present of a concertina ).

In the afternoon Julia and Mother went to church, Mr. G. C drank tea with us, after tea we went for a walk as far as the new Parsonage, it being now finished

We went to church.

In the evening Julia and I went to Chapel, after we came out, Miss. Alford and we went for a walk and met Mrs Alford and Norah returning from Godshill in the fourwheel.
