October 18th, 1857

Sunday 18th October 1857

Much better.

In the afternoon Julia and I went to church, Mr. Groundsel was clerk. Mr G.C. drank tea with us.

October 15th, 1857

Thursday 15th October 1857

Very stormy indeed in doors.

In the evening Julia and I went with Mr.G.C. to the Theatre at Newport, the performance commenced with the popular comedy of “All That Glitters is not Gold” and concluded with the laughable farce of “His last legs” , there was also singing and dancing, we were very much pleased indeed and arrived home in good hours

In the afternoon Julia went to church, I did a little drawing. Mr.G.C. drank tea with us.

In the evening we went to Chapel.

Sunday School Union tea party at Wootton Free Wesleyan Chapel. In the evening Julia and I went to Newport to change a pair of boots.

Mr F.C.L. came part of the way home with us.

Saturday 3rd October 1857

Second bargain Saturday, Julia went to Newport.

In the evening, Mr G.C. came home with Julia.

 

September 21st, 1857

Monday 21st September 1857

Littletown teaparty. In the afternoon Miss Lydia, Ann Elizabeth,.Alice Cooper, Miss Jane Brading, Miss Bagnell, Julia and I went to the tea party. When we arrived there the chapel was full and we were obliged to wait for the second course. There was a very large company for tea, but still it was nothing so comfortable as last Tuesday’s, at least I thought not.

Julia and I went to church ( I forgot to mention yesterday that Grandma made me a present of a concertina ).

In the afternoon Julia and Mother went to church, Mr. G. C drank tea with us, after tea we went for a walk as far as the new Parsonage, it being now finished

I am a month before hand that will never do. I do dislike carelessness.

This evening for the very first time in our lives Julia and I went with Mr. G. C to the Theatre  at Ryde, we liked it very much indeed. The pieces performed were “???? Up and the “Laughable farce of A Thumping Legacy and the favourite comedietta called “Delicate Ground” their was also dancing and ringery.

Miss Mary Ann Denham’s birthday. Twenty one years of age; Grandma gave a very hansome Chinese box, Mother a pair of Toilette Bottles and Julia a embroidery collar of her own working. I spent a very pleasant day, being very much pleased with my presents, only to think of being 21 is it not delightful?

Newport Regatta Julia and I went to Newport in the afternoon; it was a very agreeable sight after tea as we pleasant walk home where we arrived about 10 o’clock Mr. G. C accompanied us.
