Monday 27th September 1858
I went blackberrying. Yesterday afternoon three young men from Mr. Way’s in Newport went to Cowes in a little boat, coming home the boat capsized and two of them was unfortunately drowned. It quite throw a gloom over the whole town.
Saturday 25th September 1858
1st Bargain Saturday. In the afternoon Julia walked into Newport.

I went to Newport.

We had ½ ton of coals from Wootton Bridge. In the afternoon Julia went to Newport.
Thursday 16th September 1858
I went to Ryde to pay Mothers account at Mr. Hearns. Annie and Emma Jane came in the van to see Grandma. I arrived home by 2 o’clock after which I went to Newport. When I came back I found Mrs Dennis, Mary Louisa and Lucy Emily and the servant, they all returned to Ryde in the van. Fernhill Harvest Supper.
Tuesday 14th September 1858
I went to Newport. Miss D. drank tea with us. In the evening Mr. G.C. called in so he went part of the way to Newport with Miss D. and I.

I went to Newport. In the afternoon I walked to Ryde. Cousin William came home with me.
Sunday 12th September 1858
Julia went to Wootton Church. In the afternoon I went to Newport Miss D. and Miss C. came to met me. I drank tea at Mr. Dores. In the evening we went to Church Mr. Connor preached Mr.W.W.D Miss D and Mr. K. came home with me. We met Mr. R Mr. W.F.L and Mr. P on their return to Newport after calling at Grandma’s.
