November 4th, 1858

Thursday 4th November 1858

Julia went to Newport. The invitation to the members of the borough of Newport to dine with their constituents was accepted today, at the Queens’s Rooms about 275 of the electors and their friends had the opportunity of welcoming their respected representatives, Charles Mangles and Charles Bart Esqs., in the good old English style with with good old English fare and the best the cellar could supply. The viands were supplied most bountifully by Mr. Read of the Wheatsheaf. On Saturday Jacob Brading was charged with trespassing in pursuit of game and fined 40s and costs. At Ryde there was a tea party held at the Working Men’s Institute.

November 3rd, 1858

Wednesday 3rd November 1858

I and Emma Jane arrived from Ryde about 12 o’clock. In the afternoon we went into Newport saw Uncle William’s son and daughter from Cowes. Mrs.W. Dennis. Emma Jane and Eliza Annie drank tea with Julia, drove them part of the road home in the donkey cart.

November 1st, 1858

Monday 1st November 1858

All Saints. I and Julia went to Newport. Julia bought a new dress. Miss D.D drank tea with us. Returned home about ½ past 5 o’clock.

October 27th, 1858

Wednesday 27th October 1858

I went into Newport also to Barton’s Village. In the afternoon Julia drank tea at Miss Rolfs.

October 25th, 1858

Monday 25th October 1858

I went to Newport. Grandma very poorly indeed. In the evening cousin William called to see us. Julia went to Wootton Bridge.

October 24th, 1858

Sunday 24th October 1858

Julia went to Wootton Church. In the afternoon Miss D.D. and Miss C.C. drank tea with us, after tea we walked into Newport Church. Mr. W.W.D came and met us. He also came home with me. Mr. F.L called to see Julia they returned to Newport  about 10 o’clock

October 23rd, 1858

Saturday 23rd October 1858

I went to Newport.  In the afternoon Julia walked into town.

October 17th, 1858

Sunday 17th October 1858

I went to Wootton Church. Julia spent the day at Cousin Williams. Mr. F.L…. and Miss J. B…. drank tea with us after when they went to meet Julia. Mr. W.W.D called to see us about 7 o’clock and about ¼ past 8 o’clock Mr….. and Miss J….. called in so for about an hour we had a very cheerful and agreeable party.

October 16th, 1858

Saturday 16th October 1858

Mr. James Moody married at Arreton Church to Miss Mary Ann Russell. In the evening Julia walked to Newport.

October 9th, 1858

Saturday 9th October 1858

Very showery weather. In the evening Julia and I went to Newport. We arrived home about 9 o’clock. Mr. W.W.D came part of the way home with us.
