Saturday 9th October 1858

Very showery weather. In the evening Julia and I went to Newport. We arrived home about 9 o’clock. Mr. W.W.D came part of the way home with us.

Mother came to see us.

Mr. Hearn called to see Grandma. I went to Wootton Post Office.

Monday 4th October 1858

Grandma made some blackberry and rhubarb wine.

Sunday 3rd October 1858

I went to Wootton Church. In the afternoon Julia went to Ryde. Mr. W.W.D drank tea with us. Julia came home in the coach after which we went for a nice walk.

I went blackberrying. Yesterday afternoon three young men from Mr. Way’s in Newport went to Cowes in a little boat, coming home the boat capsized and two of them was unfortunately drowned. It quite throw a gloom over the whole town.
