March 30th, 1858

Tuesday 30th March 1858

A grand wedding a Newport, Mr. Bartlett to Miss Rogers. I heard there was 16 couples went to church with them. In the afternoon Mr Thomas List was buried at Wootton Church. He departed this life last Saturday at Godshill after a short illness, having left Palmers Farm only the Thursday before.

Miss Jane Brading called to see us.

I went to Newport.

I went to Newport. In the afternoon Julia walked into town arrived home about 8 o’clock.

March 23rd, 1858

Tuesday 23rd March 1858

We received a letter from Mother who informed us that Mrs Jeffery departed this life last Thursday,  she was a great sufferer. In the afternoon I went to Newport. In the evening Julia went for a short walk. The Ryde Sacred Harmonic Concert is held tonight at the Victoria Rooms.

I went to Newport, bought a Laburnum tree, in the afternoon Julia walked into Newport.

I did a little gardening, Julia went to Newport.

I went to Newport, bought a few shrubs. Had the donkey shod, and heard the very sad news of poor old Mr Hallet at Claybrooke strangled himself last night but I have not heard the particulars. In the evening Julia went to Chapel paid the sitting, 2/6p.

March 13th, 1858

Saturday 13th March 1858

Very wet morning. In the afternoon Julia went to Newport, bought the Independent Newspaper. I forgot to mention that last Saturday Mother applied at the Town Hall for protection of her property under he new Divorce Act. The application was granted.

March 11th, 1858

Thursday 11th March 1858

Miss Jane Rolf spent the day with us. I went to Newport.

Miss Clara Prince preached at Littletown Chapel to a numerous congregation.

March 6th, 1858

Saturday 6th March 1858

Mother and I went to Newport. The preachers returned to their respective homes, but the revival meeting was kept to a late hour by themselves.
