March 20th, 1858

Saturday 20th March 1858

I went to Newport, bought a Laburnum tree, in the afternoon Julia walked into Newport.

March 16th, 1858

Tuesday 16th March 1858

I went to Newport, bought a few shrubs. Had the donkey shod, and heard the very sad news of poor old Mr Hallet at Claybrooke strangled himself last night but I have not heard the particulars. In the evening Julia went to Chapel paid the sitting, 2/6p.

March 10th, 1858

Wednesday 10th March 1858

I had a very severe attack of the ?.  Mr. G.C. called to see us.

March 9th, 1858

Mother left us for Fareham. I drove her in the donkey cart as far as the corner and met the coach. In the evening I rather poorly.

March 7th, 1858

Sunday 7th March 1858

Mother, Julia and I went to Wootton Church, we all received the Sacrament, Julia and I having decided to try for salvation.

March 2nd, 1858

Tuesday 2nd March 1858

The weather very snowy. In the evening Littletown revival meeting commenced. Mrs Miller, Mrs Russell senior, Miss Russell junior and Mary Ann, Miss Salter, Mr James Moody were deeply convinced of sin.

Weather very snowy. In the afternoon I went to Newport.

I went to Newport on business.

Tuesday 16th February 1858

A very fine day. Julia and I walked into Newport and heard the examination of the British school children in the Queen Rooms, we arrived home about 10 o’clock.
