Transcript

15th Wednesday - I went to Newport. In the evening Mr. W. W. D. and Mr. T. L. called in.

16th Wednesday -

17th Friday - We are all very poorly indeed with the influenza*.

18th Saturday - A very wet day.

19th Sunday - Still very poorly, not able to go out.

20th Monday - We received a note from Ryde this morning stating that Mother was very ill with the influenza, I went to Ryde in the donkey cart and brought her home.

21st Tuesday - I forgot to mention that Miss Hearn was married at Carrisbrooke Church to Mr. -

* There was an Influenza Pandemic in the years 1857/8, this may explain the high number of deaths that Mary records in her diary, please see Appendix 14.
