... the afternoon I and Fanny went to Arreton Church, we heard that Mr. Gattrel and Miss Whittington was asked in church for the first time. In the evening Mr. G.C called to see us.

21st Monday - The longest day. Julia did her washing. I went to Newport. Mr. J. Bartons eldest daughter departed this world. I hope for a better – she was 16 years of age.

22nd Tuesday - I went to Newport. In the afternoon Grandma and Julia made some rhubarb wine. In the evening Miss Lydia Cooper called in to see us.

23rd Wednesday - Fanny and I went to Newport.
